Description

The Community Pastor will be absolutely committed to the vision of having a Gospel presence within walking distance of every neighborhood. This pastor will focus on knowing and being present with the people, schools, and organizations in the community. A natural disciple-maker, whose heartbeat is to connect with people right where they are, this pastor will live on mission in the community and influence others to do the same, while being actively engaged with civic organizations, businesses and other churches. This is not a preaching position, but a pastoral role in which the focus is time spent immersed in and for the community.

 

Essential Functions

  • Engage in mission/vision of SCC by planting, developing, and shepherding disciple-making communities in neighborhoods throughout the area. 
  • Provide pastoral care and leadership support to community leaders.
  • Engage and partner with local faith/like-minded leaders embedded in the community for purposes of prayer, restoration and community transformation.
  • Invest in community through local leadership/organizational infrastructure (housing associations, chamber of commerce etc.).
  • Identify, recruit, train, deploy and provide ongoing coaching of disciple-makers who connect people to Jesus and one another.
  • Build upon the established missional networks by identifying, recruiting and partnering with individuals and organizations that are living out the Gospel.
  • Unite the Body of Christ in prayer.
  • Identify, recruit, and maintain community leaders for schools with or without Gospel presence.
  • Engage and connect with campus staff weekly.
  • Develop tools and training aids to support community leaders.
  • Attend campus meetings and share what is happening throughout the region.
  • Partner with Campus Pastors and Connections Pastors to connect people within the walls of the church.
  • Other pastoral duties as assigned; such as, baptisms, weddings, funerals, MOC, etc.

Essential Competencies

  • Must have a love for the lost in our community and a demonstrated ability to serve and interact with people of all ages and walks of life.
  • Must have experience overseeing volunteers and leaders
  • Demonstrated experience identifying, recruiting and developing lay leaders
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Decisive/Solutions-oriented/Conflict management skills
  • High levels of self-motivation and drive

Required Education, Experience, and Membership

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Ordained into ministry (or pursuant within first 90 das of employment)
  • Make best effort to live in, or move to, assigned region within first year of employment
  • A mature Christian who is thoroughly grounded in the Word of God and who demonstrates a commitment to the doctrine and practice of SCC and the Restoration Movement
  • Engaged member of SCC or willing to become one; supports the SCC Statement of Faith and submits to the leadership established by the church
