Description

Maintain and improve the grounds at the Blankenbaker campus, while keeping alignment with the mission, vision, and strategies of Southeast Christian Church. May work at other locations and assist other departments as needed.

 

Essential Functions

  • Maintain grounds: Mow grass, edge, water lawns, feed and trim shrubs, tend flower beds, and regularly inspect assigned work areas to insure proper standards are maintained.
  • Operate power equipment, including but not limited to: all types of mowers, edgers, hedge trimmers, chain saws, pickup trucks, Gators, and tractor/loaders, as necessary.
  • Adjust, clean, and perform minor mechanical work on grounds equipment.
  • Apply pesticides and other chemicals according to industry safety standards.
  • Identify common landscape weeds and apply control measures.
  • Maintains roads: patch pot holes, clean drains, sweep debris, and clear snow and ice.
  • Work with volunteers in completing jobs; give guidance and direction to assist in the completion of work.
  • May supervise student or temporary employees or assign tasks to a helper.

 

Essential Competencies

  • Ability to operate a variety of gas-powered equipment; ability to safely use and maintain hand tools.
  • Flexibility to work at any time during winter and on weekends during the growing season.
  • Ability to perform physical activities, including but not limited to: lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Frequently required to work under inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems, as needed.

 

Required Education, Experience, and Membership

  • High School graduate; some college preferred.
  • One year of experience in gardening/maintaining grounds; experience maintaining large grounds preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated alignment with Southeast Christian Church's Statement of Faith.
  • Engaged member of Southeast Christian Church (or willing to become one) who supports our Statement of Faith, submits to the leadership established by the church, and lives out our church Mantras in tangible ways.
