Summary/Objective

The Community Engagement Leader will serve to further the disciple-making mission and vision of Southeast Christian Church by serving as a bridge for the Multination Community Campus through small groups and home visits. This leader will foster relationships with people, schools, churches and organizations and through unleashing SECC members and attendees to love members of their community one at a time through living out SECC’s Mantras. They should be a natural disciple maker whose heartbeat is to love people where they are by living on mission in the community and influencing others to do the same. This is a leadership role in which the focus is time spent immersed in the community as well as partnering with other campus ministries to engage said community. This person will ensure the alignment with the overarching mission, vision, and strategies of Southeast Christian Church in relation to community engagement and transformation.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with existing Missions Partners on Community Transformation efforts in the neighborhood
  • Maintain relationships with, and pursue prayerful unity with other local churches
  • Participate and lead lay leadership to participate in Community Transformation training
  • Engage in mission/vision of SECC by planting, developing and shepherding disciple-making communities in the neighborhood
  • Invest in the neighborhood through local leadership/organizational infrastructure (housing associations, chamber of commerce, etc)
  • Build upon the established missional network by identifying, recruiting and partnering with individuals and organizations that are living out the Gospel
  • Provide care and leadership support to community leaders
  • Attend nearest campus meetings and share what is happening throughout the area
  • Partner with Campus and Connections pastors to connect people within the walls of the church. This includes facilitating classes and connections to existing SECC ministries
  • Lead local school outreach program by developing and maintaining relationships with community leaders engaged in local schools, or through affiliated like-minded organizations in the community
  • Provide care and oversight for small group environments both on campus and off campus

  • Demonstrated experience identifying, recruiting and developing lay leaders
  • High levels of self-motivation and drive
  • Thorough understanding of what Biblical disciple-making means and the ability to communicate it to others
  • Fluent in Swahili is highly preferred

Required Education, Experience, and Membership

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • Ordained into ministry (or pursuant within first 90 days of employment)
  • Must make best effort to live in, or move to, assigned region within first year of employment
  • Must be a mature Christian who is thoroughly grounded in the Word of God, demonstrates a commitment to the doctrine and practice of SECC and the Restoration Movement
  • Engaged member of Southeast Christian Church (or willing to become one); supports our Statement of Faith and submits to the leadership established by the church; lives out our church Mantra in tangible ways. https://www.southeastchristian.org/sermons/mantra/be-the-branch-2
