JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Video Creative Director will supervise the video production and motion graphics team. This person will have the ability to utilize their high level of professional experience to coach and lead a team to create content, “put their hands to the plow” and accomplish the work. Their primary roles will be to manage a team of videographers, sound designers, animators and producers; collaboratively develop creative content for multiple platforms; lead on-set production; collaborate with editors to address post-production needs; professionally develop the video team, and consistently maintain alignment with the mission, vision, and strategies of Southeast Christian Church.

 

 

Essential Functions

  • Lead a team of videographers, sound designers, animators, and producers

  • Shepherd team by building relationships through day-to-day interactions and encouraging them to continue growing in their relationship with the Lord

  • Professionally develop teams of videographers, animators, sound designers, and producers by challenging them and growing them in their craft

  • Determine growth areas and points of emphasis for content creators

  • Collaboratively develop creative content

  • Write and Direct digital stories for distribution in multiple formats (web, pulpit, social media, Bible studies, TV)

  • Direct on-screen talent to ensure performance quality

  • Write a variety of scripts based on established brands

  • Develop campaigns and promotions for church-wide events alongside videographers

  • Collaborate with cross-platform teams that include web managers, graphic designers, and communications strategists

  • Lead on-set production with both volunteers and staff members

  • Lead teams of creatives, manage set operations, and collaborate with fellow filmmakers to photograph digital stories

  • Empower and coach cinematographers’ use of video lighting techniques by collaborating alongside videographers

  • Empower and coach cinematographers’ use of cameras including Sony F3/FS100, Canon 5D/7D/C100, drones, and GoPro as well as industry standard set lighting, grip, and sound equipment by collaborating alongside videographers

  • Collaborate with editors to address post-production notes, quality control projects and maintain brand integrity

  • Collaborate with editors to craft stories in various short forms (documentary, commercial, branding, marketing, narrative)

  • Empower and coach editors’ daily use of non-linear editing, color grading and sound design for video by collaborating with editors

  • Research and develop new video tools and techniques

 

 

Essential Competencies

  • Mastery of video storytelling processes and workflow as it relates to managing creatives. A strong understanding of innovative storytelling techniques—narrative plot development, lighting, composition, non-linear editing, sound design and computer animation.
  • Motivated Self-Starter with strong time-management, project management, and organizational skills. Must have the ability to juggle multiple projects in a high-energy, fast-paced environment with shifting deadlines and deliverables
  • Advanced abilities in directing on screen talent and writing within various short forms (documentary, commercial, branding, narrative)
  • A strong understanding of film software including: Adobe Premiere and After Effects; as well as hardware including: a multitude of cameras, industry standard set lighting, grip, and sound equipment
  • A strong understanding of marketing and advertising conventions: branding, differentiation for audiences, tone, target marketing, etc.
  • Proficient skills in Excel, Outlook, Basecamp, Movie Magic Scheduling, Final Draft, Photoshop
  • Proven ability to professionally develop content creators
  • Ability to lead team of creatives, have hard conversations and help resolve conflict when necessary
  • Ability to create an atmosphere of positivity and teamwork across multi-generations
  • Ability to display professionalism and an ongoing positive, Christian attitude while working with a multitude of ministries.

 

 

Required Education, Experience, and Membership

  • Bachelor’s degree in film production or comparable work experience

  • 5+ years of high-level professional experience in video (well-rounded in all facets; directing, shooting, editing, sound, stage rigging, etc.)

  • Engaged member of Southeast Christian Church who supports the Statement of Faith and submits to the leadership established by the church
